May 17 | 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.Hitchcock Nature Center
UNfortunately, this event has already occurred.
Join us Tuesday, May 17th at 7:00 p.m. for the first hike of our 2022 Hitch Hike series! This is a special guided hike through a section of the Loess Hills that is not open to the public and only accessible with a Pottawattamie Conservation staff member. Your journey will begin with a walk along a Loess Hills ridge top through the scenic prairie to reach the McIntosh Pioneer Cemetery, founded in 1874. Along the way, you'll learn more about the plants, animals, and history of the prairie and enjoy the spring wildflowers including blue-eyed grass, puccoons, and locoweed. Pre-registration is not required for this event, although free-will donations will be gratefully accepted and used to fund additional free and low-cost public programming at your county parks. Participants must purchase a $5.00 per vehicle daily pass or have a valid Pottawattamie Conservation Membership to enter the park. Please meet at the Loess Hills Lodge. Well-behaved, leashed dogs permitted.
