Forts of Omaha and Council Bluffs
May 8 | 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.Council Bluffs Public Library
Please join us for this presentation by historian and author Jeff Barnes as he discusses the 200-year history of military forts in the Missouri River Valley area. “The Forts of Omaha and Council Bluffs” examines five military posts established in today’s Nebraska and Iowa in the 1800s, some of which survived over the decades and others which are all but forgotten in the course of history.
These forts involved tribes of the Otoe, Missouri, and Pottawattamie and noted names from American history as well, including Lewis and Clark, Father Jean Paul de Smet, Ulysses S. Grant, and Ponca Chief Standing Bear. Barnes’s presentation will include many historical maps, images and photographs to help tell the story of these historical sites.
