First Avenue Council Bluffs: Where the East Ended
July 22 | 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.Council Bluffs Public Library
UNfortunately, this event has already occurred.
Dozens of towns claim to be "Where the West Began." While that is open to debate, it's clear where the east ended: Council Bluffs. First Avenue, to be specific. Though in recent years those sparsely used railroad tracks served just a couple of grain elevators, that was the original connection to the route west. Everyone heading west traveled this path, and got off the train here.
This program will explain the status of the First Ave corridor project, how its past is being incorporated into the design, and tell the tales of the rich history of those first rails to Council Bluffs and why an officially platted city street held railroad tracks, but never a street. The program will be presented by Brenda Mainwaring, president and CEO of Iowa West, and Brandon Garrett, Council Bluffs Community Development Director will present. Admission is $5; as seating is limited to just 45 advance reservations are recommended.
