Bass Pro Shops
Santa’s Wonderland returns to Bass Pro Shops and Council Bluffs/Omaha-area families are invited to enjoy this magical Christmas village offering free photos with Santa and free family holiday activities including fun crafts and games.

Features include rustic Christmas cabins, holiday characters and live elves set amongst a dazzling backdrop of snow-covered hills and illuminated Christmas trees. The Santa’s Wonderland Christmas village offers remote control trucks, laser/ foam toy arcade, Lincoln Logs building area and much more. Kids can also spend time at one of the activity tables where they can write a letter to Santa, color and do fun crafts, all for free.

Families can enjoy the wonder of Christmas inside Bass Pro Shops with Santa’s Wonderland through December 24 including free photos with Santa. Guests can schedule their Santa time using the free Bass Pass system. Visit the Bass Pass Ticket Depot located at the entrance of Santa’s Wonderland to pick up a time-stamped pass.

Santa’s arrival coincides with Veteran’s Day and the start of a holiday round up program where customers can help support service members, military families and veterans through a donation program. Bass Pro Shops will donate 100 percent of customer contributions to USO Care Packages, which are shipped directly to active service members overseas, and AMVETS. Holiday Band Concert

Iowa Western Community College Instrumental Music Department presents a Holiday Concert. Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Band will perform at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public!

Council Bluffs' dog show is held over the Thanksgiving weekend and provides a much needed break from too much food, football, shopping, and extended family. This is our own local version of the beloved Westminister Dog Show. Tickets are $8 per person for adults and $7 per person for seniors. Children age 12 or under are free when accompanied by an adult.

Working on the Railroad Grand Opening

5 to 7PM | Union Pacific Railroad Museum
Join us for the grand opening of our newest, permanent exhibit, “Working on the Railroad.” Meet UP employees and learn what it takes to work on the railroad every day. See if you are strong enough to lift a rail, take your turn in the engineer’s seat and operate the train with the latest in safety features, and see how fast you can Build the Train in a fun, interactive game. The prize drawing for the tickets on the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad will take place at 6 pm, make sure your family night punch card has been added for your chance to win. Join us every first Friday for family night. January 5th’s theme is Pajama Night.

Breakfast With Santa

7:30 to 10:30AM | Quaker Steak & Lube
Breakfast With Santa includes breakfast, a visit with Santa, crafts, face painting and balloon art. For $5, individuals over age 2 can enjoy a full breakfast. Children 2 and under are free. Photos with Santa are $5. Crafts and other activities are free. This is a wonderful opportunity to help raise funds for children in our community with life threatening medical conditions. Event is open to everyone.


Bird Banding Demonstration

9 to 11AM | Hitchcock Nature Center
Come get a "bird's eye" view of our fine-feathered friends as you join volunteers for a live songbird banding at Hitchcock Nature Center.

Volunteers will be banding songbirds at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on the following dates:

Saturday, November 4th
Saturday, December 2nd

All ages are welcome to attend this live demonstration. Participants must purchase a $2.00 per vehicle daily entrance pass or have a valid Pottawattamie County Parks annual permit to attend this program. Daily entrance passes may be purchased with exact change or check at the front gate and may be purchased the day of the event. Annual permits may be purchased for $10.00 from staff at any of our parks or at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center during regular business hours. There is no additional fee to attend this program, free will donations are encouraged and will support continued programming opportunities in Pottawattamie County.

This event is not pet friendly, please leave your dogs at home. Service animals are always welcome.

Christmas Bazaar and Decoration Sale

The annual Christmas Bazaar and Decoration Sale is Saturday, December 2. The event features all sorts of vendors with unique holiday gift and home ideas. The Center Ambassadors will also be selling all types of holiday decorations-new and gently used. Start your holiday shopping off right! Concessions will be available.

Fic to Flick

6 to 9PM | Council Bluffs Public Library
"You'll shoot your eye out!" The film adaptation, "A Christmas Story" (1983), will be screened with a book/movie discussion to follow. It is rated PG and one hour and 34 minutes in length. Copies of "In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash" by Jean Shepherd are available now at the Reference Desk. This is an after hours event. The library will close at 5:00pm and re-open prior to program time. No returns or checkouts will be available.

Wild West Christmas

10AM to 1PM | Western Historic Trails Center
Celebrate Christmas Wild West style at the Western Historic Trails Center. Children will get to decorate a western themed ornament, hear a cowboy Christmas story, listen to music by local musicians, and have their picture taken with Santa in our wild west photo booth. Cookies and cider will be provided.

Saturday Matinee - Spider-Man: Homecoming

The matinee showing is Spider-Man: Homecoming. Released in 2017, it is rated PG-13 and is two hours and 13 minutes in length. The event features free popcorn and is free and open to the public.

Joseph Hall's Elvis Christmas Show

2 to 4PM | The Center
Joseph Hall, finalist from America's Got Talent and a Branson veteran, is bringing his Elvis-The Christmas Show tribute to The Center on Sunday, December 17. Doors open at 1 pm for a 2 pm performance.

Hall's Elvis is truly a blast from the past, and he'll be singing all the classics.

The Great Train Expo

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of miniature railroading at the train show! Moon Mouse by Lightwire Theater

A family show, recommended for children ages five through 10. Lightwire Theater is proud to present Moon Mouse, a cosmic glow-in-the-dark adventure about celebrating differences. Marvin the mouse wants to be popular. Constantly bullied and picked on by the “cool” rats, he is labeled as a looser and a geek. As respite from the continuous badgering, Marvin retreats into his science books and a world of fantasy. He longs to have adventures and to be the hero. Join Marvin on the space adventure of a lifetime: a trip to the surface of the moon on his homemade rocket, where he meets a strange cast of misfit creatures, learns of infinite peril and views awesome beauty.
