About Dustin:
Dustin Clayton is a lifelong student of the natural world and an avid woods walker. He has for many years been a practitioner of various Earth-based skills including: flintknapping, folk herbalism, foraging, traditional woodworking, cordage making, and fiber arts. Additionally, he has extensively studied folk traditions and practices from around the world. Dustin’s goal in all the programming he presents is to inspire people to get out into the woods and begin to build respectful relationships with the living world all around them.
“It is my very great hope that this program will provide people who are not scientists, but who are nevertheless filled with wonder and curiosity while in natural spaces, with access points for being in the right relationship with the living world.” — Dustin Clayton

Railroads are vulnerable: They follow a fixed path that is impossible to disguise, and their moving parts are always visible. And yet railroads have played an important role in every American conflict since 1860. During the Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the Gulf War, railroads transported soldiers and everything they needed, ranging from tanks to uniforms.
Patricia LaBounty, curator of the Union Pacific Collection at the Union Pacific Museum, draws from the photographic archives to survey the unique ways that railroaders supported American war efforts, including the transportation of soldiers across the country and the operation of railway operating battalions abroad. Join us on Thursday, November 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Council Bluffs Public Library to learn about this fascinating topic!
When it comes to working on electronics, soldering is an essential skill. In this class, we’ll go over the basics of the soldering iron, types of solder, basic terminology, and safety. Then, we’ll put that knowledge to use by practicing wire joining on spare circuit boards.

Winterfest is the City's annual tree lighting ceremony in Bayliss Park. What started as a simple countdown in 2014 has become a one-of-a-kind festival of winter activities. The main event at Winterfest is the Bayliss Park Lighting Ceremony. At 6:00 p.m., Santa Claus and Mayor Walsh lead the crowd in a song of Jingle Bells followed by a countdown, after which Bayliss Park lights up with more than 60,000 twinkle lights and the celebrations begin.
The City of Council Bluffs is partnering with The Council Bluffs Public Library, Pottawattamie Arts, Culture & Entertainment, The 712 Initiative, Union Pacific Museum, Pottawattamie County Conservation, and The Salvation Army to give the community a holiday tradition unlike anywhere else.
