The Council Bluffs Public Library has announced the 2024 Our Community Reads book discussion program! This year's theme, "Water Connects Us All," focuses on how water connects our communities.
Our Community Reads, sponsored by the Council Bluffs Public Library Foundation, aims to raise awareness of a community or regional challenge through a book selection that supports community discussion, awareness, and action. During Our Community Reads, the community and its visitors are invited to read one of the three titles and participate in events throughout March and April, including the much-anticipated Water Fest!
About the Titles:
Riverman: An American Odyssey by Ben McGrath is a riveting story of Dick Conant, an American folk hero, who over the course of more than 20 years, solo canoed thousands of miles of American Rivers and then, in 2016, disappeared off the coast of North Carolina.
Ocean! Waves for All by Stacy McAnulty is a lighthearted picture book that talks about the history and formation of the ocean, told from the perspective of the ocean itself!
Sunny Makes a Splash by Jennifer L. Holm follows Sunny into a sink-or-swim summer, where she needs to float her first job and dive into her first-maybe flirtation.
Where to Get the Books:
In addition to the copies you can find on the shelf and place a hold on at the Council Bluffs Public Library, the Library has multiple copies of Riverman available for checkout through the Reference Desk. Throughout Our Community Reads, copies will be available for checkout with a three-week loan period.
