The City of Council Bluffs opened the new Valley View Dog Park on November 15, 2024, providing a 1.2-acre space where dogs and their owners can enjoy the outdoors together. The park is a new addition to the City’s recreational options, giving residents a dedicated place to exercise their dogs and connect with other pet owners.
Designed with safety in mind, Valley View Dog Park includes two secure, off-leash areas—one for large dogs, about 0.9 acres, and a smaller 0.25-acre area for small breeds. Each section has a separate entrance to ensure a comfortable experience for all. “Logstacles,” made from logs collected during recent park renovations, offer natural play structures for dogs to climb and balance.
The park is equipped with water stations, benches, shaded areas, and wide paths so owners can relax while their dogs play. The City asks all visitors to follow posted rules, including ensuring dogs are up-to-date on vaccinations, leashing dogs until inside play areas, and cleaning up after their dogs.
“It’s been a long time coming, and Council Bluffs is proud to open this new dog park at Valley View,” said Mayor Matt Walsh. “We’ve heard from many residents who wanted outdoor spaces for dogs, and this project reflects our commitment to listening to the community and enhancing recreation.”
The Valley View Dog Park will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., consistent with other Council Bluffs parks.
“We aimed to create a functional space that meets the needs of our dog-owning community,” said Parks Director Vincent Martorello. “Valley View Dog Park was designed with safety, accessibility, and usability in mind, ensuring that both dogs and their owners have a reliable, well-maintained environment for exercise and socialization.”
The dog park is officially open for use, but a grand opening celebration is being planned for next spring. For more information, visit councilbluffs-ia.gov.
