Q & A with New CBCVB Board Member Brian Shea

Brian Shea

Brian Shea is one of the Council Bluffs CVB's newest board members. He has served on the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors since 2021. He previously served as a city council member for Crescent and later as mayor. Brian brings a critical and unique perspective to the board.

Why did you choose to serve on the CBCVB board?

I want to help Council Bluffs grow with tourism and offer more activities for our residents in Pottawatomie County. The path to growth is the ability to attract younger families who are seeking a wholesome community to live and raise their families. I feel I can bring a perspective that helps to achieve this outcome.

How long have you been a resident of Council Bluffs (or worked here)?

I have lived in Pottawattamie County my whole life. I have enjoyed many of Council Bluffs' offerings, and I hope that as a board member, I can help expand what is available for more people to enjoy.

What do this town and its tourism industry mean to you?

I consider quality of life the most important factor. Economic development is also very high on the list. When new people come to visit and look around the community, they will find that we have a lot to offer businesses and people who want to move here.

What do you hope to see the CBCVB achieve in your time as a board member?

More amenities and entertainment. Bike trails are available throughout the city and connection to the Wabash Trace system. I want us to be prepared for the ‘The Great American Trail’ that will pass through our county and right through Council Bluffs. The economic impact of bicycling in Iowa is approximately $1.4 billion per year. This could bring much greater economic benefits to the Council Bluffs area, not to mention runners, walkers, and health benefits for all.

Is there anything else you'd like to share with our industry partners about yourself?

I make sure to speak up when on any board. When you serve on a board, it is your job to stimulate communication between members and discuss all ideas so we can find the best way forward for all involved.
