As the leaves turn and the nights grow longer, the spirit of Halloween awakens in Council Bluffs, and there's no better place to embrace the thrill than at Madness Haunted House. This local gem has been scaring and delighting guests since its humble beginnings in 2012, and it has evolved into an unforgettable seasonal attraction housed at the scenic Pioneer Trail Orchard.

A Local Legacy of Fear

Madness Haunted House

Madness Haunted House began as a labor of love for three guys in the driveway of co-founder Josh Bellows. From 2012 to 2015, it grew from a small gathering of friends into a full-fledged haunt, moving to the Mall of the Bluffs in 2016 until it was time for a change. In 2021, Madness found its home at the Pioneer Trail Orchard, thanks to a chance partnership with the winery. This fortuitous connection has allowed Madness to flourish while staying committed to the Council Bluffs community it adores.

An Immersive Experience Like No Other

Madness Haunted House

What sets Madness apart from other haunted attractions? For starters, it boasts over 80 dedicated volunteers, with 60 acting as scare artists on any given night. This large cast enhances the immersive experience, ensuring that you won’t just walk through dark rooms; you'll be enveloped in a living nightmare that lasts an exhilarating 45 minutes!

Among the spine-tingling exhibits, you'll find the notorious Klown Korner—a labyrinth of 30 doors and 10 terrifying clowns that will test your courage. Or perhaps you’d dare to explore Butchers Bayou and Kainsville Asylum, featuring a chilling Exorcist room that’ll haunt your dreams. And for those who relish a unique twist, be sure to ask about the hidden "madness doors." If you get lucky, you might find yourself backtracking or repeating rooms, adding an element of unpredictability to your journey.

Satisfy Your Hunger for Thrills and Treats

After navigating the horrors of Madness, don’t forget to satisfy your appetite at Apple Jacks, located on the same grounds. Open during haunt hours, this restaurant offers a delectable range of options, from crispy cheese curds to massive taco specials on Fridays. You can even indulge in their famous funnel cakes as you process the scares you’ve just experienced.

A Commitment to Community

Madness Haunted House isn't just about frights; it's also deeply rooted in community spirit. According to co-owner Bryon Beins, the attraction aims to provide a positive outlet for local youth, helping them develop valuable life skills while having fun. In addition to entertaining visitors, Madness donates a portion of its proceeds to local nonprofits, including Sail on and Fly High, an organization focused on youth suicide prevention.
