Celebrate Playground Renovation at Manawa City Park

The City of Council Bluffs Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to announce the completion of a significant playground renovation project at Manawa City Park (Navajo and Mohawk St). As part of ongoing efforts to enhance community spaces and provide safe, engaging recreational opportunities, the Parks and Recreation Department is updating several playgrounds throughout the city, some of which were nearly three decades old.

The revitalization of Manawa City Park’s playground marks a milestone in this initiative, bringing state-of-the-art equipment and amenities to the heart of the neighborhood. To commemorate this achievement, the Council Bluffs Parks and Recreation Department invites residents and families to a special grand opening celebration.

  • Date: Monday, August 19, 2024
  • Time: 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Location: Manawa City Park at the corner of Navajo and Mohawk Streets

New additions include a tower play structure with slides, an accessible merry-go-round, a swing set with an ADA-molded seat swing, a new 20-foot picnic shelter, basketball hoops, and skate elements, including a kinked grind rail and a quarter pipe. Manawa City Park also has a new sensory garden with an internal trail system and play panels; perfect for kids on scooters and bikes!

The Manawa City Neighborhood Party promises an evening of fun-filled festivities for all ages. The Up Dog food truck and Tropical Sno snow cone truck will be on-site, with food and drink available for purchase. In addition to the new playground, kids and families can play yard games and get their faces painted at the celebration. This community event invites residents to get together, celebrate the new playground, and strengthen neighborhood bonds.

"We're thankful to the Manawa City Park neighbors for helping us shape what the park upgrades would become and we're proud of the final product," said Council Bluffs Parks and Recreation Director, Vincent Martorello. "This project reflects our commitment to providing vibrant, inclusive spaces where families can gather, play, and create lasting memories."

The Manawa City Park Neighborhood Party is open to the public. Parking is limited, so neighbors are encouraged to walk to the party on Monday, August 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. The park is now open, and residents are encouraged to stop by and check it out.

Plans for updating Prospect Park, Big Lake Park, and Roberts Park are in the works. Other new playgrounds in Council Bluffs include Eastern Hills Trail Stop Park, Belles’ Play Garden, and Cochran Park.
