The Council Bluffs Convention & Visitors Bureau has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The Regional Sports Authority District grant program was created to help promote tourism in Iowa by funding projects that promote sporting events in the state. Nine other CVB’s and sports commissions in Iowa were also awarded this grant including Ames, Cedar Valley, Greater Burlington, Greater Des Moines, Greater Ottumwa, Iowa City/ Coralville, Quad Cities, Sioux City, and Dubuque.
This is the fifteenth time the CBCVB has been awarded this grant. This money helps attract and retain large sporting events in Council Bluffs like the Adidas 3SSB Championships, USA Cornhole National Championships, Halloween Havoc Soccer Tournament, National Home School Volleyball, Council Bluffs Wrestling Classic, King & Queen of the MAC, Phil Cahoy Sr Cornhusker Classic, NJCAA Wrestling National Championships, Heartland USA National Duals, Rumble on the River Soccer Tournament, and Triple Crown SlumpBuster. Large sporting events like these help bring business to Council Bluffs’ hotels, restaurants, and attractions. In fact, travelers spent more than $350 million in Pottawattamie County in 2019 according to the US Travel Association.
