The type of fast, muscular aircraft made famous in the 1942 Doolittle Raid during WWII will be on public exhibition at the Council Bluffs Municipal Airport Monday, September 18 - Sunday, September 24.

The B-25J 'Maid in the Shade' is one of the Arizona Commemorative Air Force's combat aircraft based at its world-famous museum based in Mesa, Arizona.

Tour Hours: Monday, Friday - Sunday: 2 pm - 6 pm and Tuesday - Thursday: 9 am - 6 pm. Standard plane tour fees are $10/person and $20/family of four (in US and Canada).

Rides in the aircraft will be offered Friday - Sunday from 10 am - 1 pm for $325 (waist gunner seats) or $650 (jump seats in nose).

Air Force Junior ROTC Charity Golf Tournament

The Air Force Junior ROTC and the Council Bluffs York Rite will hold a fundraising golf tournament for which funds will be shared in support of the Knights Templar Eye Foundation and the 75th Anniversary of D-Day Trip to Normandy, France. Northern Men Concert

3 to 4:30PM | Bayliss Park
Three of Ireland’s native musicians –Cliff McKenna, Paddy Finney and Liam McKervey now known as Northern Men—return to perform at the Council Bluffs Bayliss Park for an afternoon of song, revelry and renewing old friendships. The lads have been coming to the Omaha/Council Bluffs area since 1988 and are happy to be celebrating their 28th anniversary of roving to the heartland. The trio will appear at the park in a free performance at 3–4:30 pm.

Folks are invited to bring their lawn chairs or blankets and a picnic lunch to the park. Rain location is the YMCA (7 South 4th Street). The concert is produced by Pottawattamie Arts, Culture & Entertainment and is sponsored by Gay Searcy and the Council Bluffs Parks and Recreation Department.

Homeschool in the Hills

2 to 4PM | Hitchcock Nature Center
Homeschool students and parents are invited to join us at Hitchcock Nature Center for a fun filled field day on Tuesday, September 26th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

This event will feature a combination of self-guided activities such as scavenger hunts & nature challenges, along with activities guided by Pottawattamie County Conservation Naturalists. Join in the fun as we hike, explore, & learn then meet up afterwards for refreshments and a chance to network & meet other homeschooling families. This event is perfect for homeschool students age 5 & up with a focus on elementary age learners & will feature lots of hands-on learning.

This program is presented in conjunction with the Loess Hills & Heritage Week, and is part of a series of programming opportunities being presented throughout the Loess Hills September 23rd through October 1st, 2017.

Participants must have a valid Pottawattamie County Parks annual permit or purchase a $2.00 per vehicle daily entrance pass. ake in the scenery of the Loess Hills as you run through woodlands, valleys, & prairies during the 12th Annual Hitchcock Nature Center HawkWatch 5K Trail Run & Walk.

Race your way through Hitchcock Nature Center on Saturday, October 14th, race check-in begins at 7:00 a.m. & the race gets underway at 9:00 a.m. Pre-registration is recommended for this event.

Participants can register in two ways:

All Hallows Eve at Botna Bend

6:30 to 8:30PM | Botna Bend Park
Join us at Botna Bend Park for a two night celebration full of fun for the whole family!

We kick off the fun on Friday, October 20th at 6:30 p.m. with campfire stories for kids of all ages presented by the Council Bluffs Library.

Saturday, October 21st is a full day of fun with a variety of activities planned throughout the day.

10:00 a.m. : Halloween Crafts
12:00 p.m.: Corn Hole Tournament, register your two person team in advance at the Botna Bend Park office
3:00 p.m. :Live demonstrations with Raptor Recovery
6:25 p.m.: Campground Trick-or-Treating
7:15 p.m.: Movie in the Park - Hotel Transylvania

Please meet at Olsen Lodge for all of these events. If you are interested in participating in the Corn Hole Tournament at noon you must register your 2 person team at the Botna Bend Park office that morning before the start of the tournament.
