The Mill on Mosquito Creek

2 to 3PM | Council Bluffs Public Library
One hundred and eighty years ago, Potawatomi Chief Sauganash (Billy Caldwell) led a group of Native Americans to a new home in Iowa that would later become the county bearing their name. They built southwest Iowa’s first saw and grist mill, traces of which can still be seen. Historian and author Mary Lou McGinn will tell the story of the mill, its discovery, and the fascinating tale of the diplomatic and well-educated Indian chief who shaped the early days of what is now Council Bluffs.

Gaelic Storm

7:30 to 9:30PM | The Arts Center, Iowa Western Community College
After nearly two decades and more than 3,000 live shows, Gaelic Storm — the chart-topping, multi-national Celtic band — is looking sharper than ever. This crowd favorite returns to the Arts Center with their latest release, Matching Sweaters. The new album mixes traditional Irish music with modern influences, creating a sound that's as wide-ranging as the band's own audience. In the mid-1990s, Gaelic Storm kicked off its career as a pub band in Santa Monica, California. By the end of the decade, the musicians had appeared in the blockbuster film "Titanic" (where they performed "Irish Party in Third Class") and laid the groundwork for a career that would eventually find them topping the Billboard World Chart five times, making appearances at mainstream music festivals such as Summerfest, Telluride and The Rock Boat Cruise, and regularly headlining the largest Irish Festivals across the country, all the while gaining a reputation as a genre-bending Irish band whose songs mix Celtic traditions with something new and unexpected. Now, with the band's 20th anniversary on the horizon, they're putting even more emphasis on those newer directions. Kick off your Spring with an Irish party at the Arts Center. Tickets are available through the Arts Center Box Office.
