Gaelic Storm

7:30 to 9:30PM | The Arts Center, Iowa Western Community College
After nearly two decades and more than 3,000 live shows, Gaelic Storm — the chart-topping, multi-national Celtic band — is looking sharper than ever. This crowd favorite returns to the Arts Center with their latest release, Matching Sweaters. The new album mixes traditional Irish music with modern influences, creating a sound that's as wide-ranging as the band's own audience. In the mid-1990s, Gaelic Storm kicked off its career as a pub band in Santa Monica, California. By the end of the decade, the musicians had appeared in the blockbuster film "Titanic" (where they performed "Irish Party in Third Class") and laid the groundwork for a career that would eventually find them topping the Billboard World Chart five times, making appearances at mainstream music festivals such as Summerfest, Telluride and The Rock Boat Cruise, and regularly headlining the largest Irish Festivals across the country, all the while gaining a reputation as a genre-bending Irish band whose songs mix Celtic traditions with something new and unexpected. Now, with the band's 20th anniversary on the horizon, they're putting even more emphasis on those newer directions. Kick off your Spring with an Irish party at the Arts Center. Tickets are available through the Arts Center Box Office.

James Torme

7:30 to 9:30PM | The Arts Center, Iowa Western Community College
Multi-Award winning artist James Tormé is a uniquely gifted singer whose music infuses older jazz classics with soul and R&B influences of today. Tormé's magnetic relevance stems from the fact that he mixes the showmanship of his father's generation with the youthful charisma of a contemporary Hollywood star. Considering his roots, this shouldn't be too surprising. James comes from a professional show business family of household names. His father, Mel, a legendary singer, was a three-time Grammy Award winner whose songwriting credits include the most popular holiday song ever, "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)." For this program, James Tormé celebrates music's greatest legends, from Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Peggy Lee and Nat "King" Cole, to Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, and of course, his own father, three-time Grammy Award winner Mel Tormé. Tickets are available through The Arts Center Box Office.
