Everything You Need to Know about Celebrate CB 2017

One thing is clear about Council Bluffs: the native residents dearly love their hometown. This year’s Celebrate CB theme – Just Getting Started – is a testament to the progress Council Bluffs has made over the past several years. It’s an exciting time to live in Council Bluffs and everyone should be invested in what’s happening here. Celebrate CB is a weeklong, family-friendly festivity where locals from every corner of the city can come together and celebrate everything Council Bluffs. Though the event is a local celebration, everyone is welcome. Here is an overview of this year’s events.

Friday, May 12: Celebrate @ the River & BBQ

Mayor Matt Walsh will kick off the week of events with the announcement of the Celebrate CB parade grand marshal at 6 p.m. at Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park. Following the announcement, the metro area’s beloved Taxi Driver will be rocking covers from the 50s to present day. Bring your partner and your dancing shoes down to the riverfront – the show starts at 7 p.m. New this year: the 2017 Great American Cookout is coming to BBQ in the Bluffs and Celebrate @ the River. BBQ experts Mike and Christine Peters will share their best grilling tips and free samples. You won’t want to miss this! The best part? Admission is FREE to the Celebrate @ the River activities.

Tuesday, May 16: Clean Sweep

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Bayliss Park, volunteers will scatter throughout the city to pick up litter in a community-wide, spring cleaning effort. Prizes will be awarded to teams who bring back the most litter collected, most unique item found and best team spirit. Keeping with tradition, the Celebrate CB crew will provide a light dinner back in Bayliss Park around 7 p.m. In case of inclement weather, a rain date is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17. You can pre-register online or just show up on May 16!

May 18 - 20: Carnival Rides

During Celebrate CB, Bayliss Park turns into a mini-amusement park, with carnival rides, games and yummy carnival treats. Rides will be up and running beginning May 18 and tickets and wristbands will be available for sale on-site. Get ready for a great ride during carnival hours:
  • Thursday, May 18: 4-10 p.m.
  • Friday, May 19: 4-10 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 20: 12-10 p.m.

Friday, May 19: Ag Committee Cookout

The Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee, a.k.a. grillmasters, will be hosting their spring cookout at Bayliss Park. Show up anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for your choice of steak sandwiches ($9) or hamburgers ($7) with chips and a drink. Proceeds will benefit area college students studying agribusiness.

Saturday, May 20: Celebrate CB Parade

Celebrate CB will bookend a fantastic week of celebrations with the annual Celebrate CB parade. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and follows at 10-block route through downtown Council Bluffs on Pearl and Main streets. A grand marshal, selected from nominations submitted by the public, will lead the parade of vehicles and floats. After the parade, don’t miss out on music, kids’ activities, and carnival rides in Bayliss Park.

We’ll see you there!

Without a doubt, Celebrate CB is the feel-good event of the year with community pride and fun-filled opportunities to reconnect with neighbors, friends and family. Can’t wait to see you there.
