Eagles of Honor Project

Overview

Since 2007, each community in Pottawattamie County has raised funds so that every town in the county has an "Eagle of Honor", a hand-crafted bronze eagle sculpture to honor and thank all military veterans and their families. Each eagle is unique and features a variation on the theme of honor. The Eagles of Honor sculptures were made by artist Russell Christensen from Neola, Iowa. Russ and his wife Penny own and operate Penny's Visions Art Gallery in Neola.

The Eagle of Honor displays include:

*It was not possible to pinpoint all of the Eagles of Honor on Google Maps. However, each sculpture is located in a small town, which makes locating the Eagle of Honor easy.

The eagles are part of Pottawattamie County's Stars and Bronze Tribute Trail, a collection of memorials and art pieces honoring veterans and other public figures. Next Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Flag Day, or 4th of July, hit the trail and view all of Pottawattamie County's eagles to celebrate and honor the lives of military veterans.
